What Happened to SearchFox?

Earlier this week I requested a SearchFox account. SearchFox is an RSS reader that watches how you read your feeds then uses machine learning to figure out what new articles you might like best. I was a little frustrated that I didn’t receive an email back and figured it might be my Web 1.0 yahoo.com email address that marked me as part of the early majority rather than an innovator or early adopter. Now I know why. SearchFox is shutting down on January 25th [via TechCrunch].

I suppose if they were actually attracting the early majority they might still be in business. Anyway, they were still running a private beta so they weren’t trying to attract a lot of users yet. This doesn’t make sense to me. Did they just run out of money? With the world awash in credit?
