We’ve had a tough February at Web Worker Daily. I was out of town in SF at the beginning of the month, Judi’s husband has been away in Europe, then Mike and I got sick this week. Judi, Mike, and I all have other jobs besides our WWD blogging plus we’re parents too (and Mike even homeschools!) But the cool thing about WWD blogging is that we can write about almost anything that happens in our work life. That means we’ve been covering stress management, avoiding illness, and dealing with all the stuff on our to do list and in our inbox:
- Judi with 15 stress management tips. My favorite is “take advantage of the comforts of home when you need to.” That might mean taking a quick shower to reenergize, lying down for fifteen minutes on the couch, or even watching Food Network for a few minutes (that’s what I do sometimes to take my mind off work).
- Our new writer Matthew with ways to keep winter bugs away
- Mike with tips on organizing your email–surely one of the greatest sources of a web worker’s stress
- And my open thread asking how you decide what to do from your to do list
Are there any topics you’d like to see covered on WWD? Doesn’t matter if you’re a web worker or not. Some of my best ideas have come from non-web workers like my mom, who works as an in-house attorney at a telecom company. She had great insight for the teleconferencing tips post, as she spends even more time meeting by phone than I do.
So if there’s some work-related topic you think might be interesting for WWD, tell me about it.

It would be fun to see something about web workers and the “water cooler sports” environment. With March Madness coming up, I’m hoping to start an RIA-bloggers league because I always loved doing March Madness and Fantasy Sports at the office before I became a WW. A lot of the leagues are easy to access online, but I haven’t seen anything about which ones are best, how to choose who you do one with or how to keep it fun while it’s all being done online.
You know, there is a topic I was interested in. My laptop monitor died, so I currently have an ancient (and overly dark) monitor hooked up so I can keep working. And I wanted to get a shiny new HD LCD monitor to hook up to my Mac Mini so I can send the laptop off for repairs, but I am having a hard time picking a monitor. I am being particularly picky since my job requires me to work with original art via jpegs all day, so quality is a serious consideration. So maybe an open discussion on desktop monitor choices and who likes what?
Ryan - thanks, that’s a good idea. Probably not one I’d be very good at writing up but I bet someone on the team might be. And it makes me think there are other office activities that could somehow be translated for virtual teams. Like people on Twitter last night were saying what drinks they were having–a virtual happy hour (so long as it doesn’t devolve into everyone sitting around drinking alone!)
Amie - that’s a great one too. We need to do more hardware comparison/discussion items.
