Just some random notes and reminders…
- Last week I migrated this site, Togetherism, and The Everyday Cafe to a new web host. The experience wasn’t too painful and it was totally worth it — the sites load almost immediately now instead of taking a few seconds.
- Dawn Foster put some work in over the weekend on her blog. She reminds me that a backup strategy needs to take into account web-hosted databases. She’s using the WordPress Database Backup plugin to do a weekly backup. I think I will try that too.
- Judi Sohn shared her Leopard backup strategy which parallels the strategy-in-three-tweets that Mike Gunderloy gave me. I’m just using SuperDuper right now but I think I will expand my procedures to include TimeMachine and JungleDisk.
- In the past couple weeks I also bought a new display (hitting the 24-inch sweet spot) and upgraded both my Macs to Leopard. Everything feels shiny and new.
Next tasks:
- Upgrade RAM in my MacBook Pro to 2GB. Since a liquid spill rendered my warranty void anyway, might as well crack open the machine and do it myself.
- Upgrade WordPress blogs to 2.5.1.
- Get a bigger backup hard drive so I can do SuperDuper and TimeMachine backups on one disk.
